Step 1 Lead-in
A video show of an exciting whale watching tour
Q: How do you feel about the tour? (happy, satisfied, excited…)
Listening part about Angela’s complaints about a whale watching tour
Q: Is Angela happy about her tour? What are her problems? Are the problems solved by the tour guide?
设计意图:通过视频中展现的美好的whale watching tour 和听力中Angela对于whale watching tour 的不满意没有得到导游的解决引出给manager写一封投诉信。
Step 2 Discussion
Discuss the framework of a letter of making complaints. (How many parts can the letter be divided into? What are they used for?)
Discuss in details about how this letter of making complaints is supposed to be written.
设计意图:通过小组讨论得到投诉信写作的框架构成和每部分应注意的细节,为学生写作语言的生成做准备。再通过对本情境下投诉信具体内容的讨论帮助学生随后的写作能够更顺畅。
Step 3 Writing
Give students a period of time to write the letter and walk around to help them when necessary.
设计意图:练习如何将已获得的信息转化为文字,并能及时帮助学生解决在写作中遇到的实际问题。
Step 4 Sharing, presentation and evaluation
Present one or two of students’ writings and discuss how we can evaluate the writing properly. (Group members can share and correct each other’s writing if time permits)
设计意图:在第一遍文字生成后引导学生如何正确地评价作文,为第二遍改进做准备。
Step 5 Homework
Improve the letter after class and hand it in tomorrow.
