Step Ⅰ Grammar review
T: Today, let’s review the restrictive attribute cause. First, Look at the sentences,
what’s the attribute cause. Explain the antecedent and the function of the antecedent.
We have learned enough about the restrictive attributive clauses before. Let’s have a summary. Attributive clause is the clause that modifies a noun. That is, a sentence with an attributive clause is a combination of two shorter sentences. In an attributive clause, we must use conjunctions: Relative pronouns who / whom / which / whose / that. The most important part of attributive clauses is the connectors, namely the conjunctions that connect the two sentences, and they function in the clauses differently.
Step 2 Let’s observe the sentences , draw a conclusion and do exercises
The old man who/whom/that we visited yesterday is a famous artist.
我们昨天拜访的那位老人是位著名的艺术家。(指人,作宾语)
I like the books which/that are written by Lu Xun.
我喜欢鲁迅写的书。(指物,作主语)
Li Lei isn’t the man that he used to be.
李雷已经不是他过去的那个样子了。(指人,作表语)
He is not such a fool as he looks like.
他不像看上去那么傻。(指人,作宾语)
Miss Wang is taking care of the child whose parents have gone to Beijing.
