Strengthen students’ willpower to overcome difficulties in learning English and help them to build up confidence in English learning.

Analysis of students:

Students in this class are not so good at English, especially in reciting words and expressions. Besides, it is still very difficult for them to think in English and express their ideas in English. In this class, I focus on helping students to understand the key words and expressions in the text through context. Based on the understanding of these words and expressions, it would be easier for them to use these words and expressions to convey their thoughts in English, which will also help them to recite these words and expressions more effectively. In this way, they will have more confidence in learning English well.

Teaching key points:

exactly, twins, have a great impact on， differ/difference/differ from/be different from, appearance/disappearance, accumulate, make a breakthrough, pay off , the media

Teaching procedure:

一．Leading-in

1.Show some pictures of the twins(孙雨朦 &孙雨彤) who were admitted to Harvard University as postgraduates in 2016.

2. Show a video about some encouraging words to the twins.

3. Show a passage about the life of the twins. In the passage, all the key words and expressions to be learnt in this class are used.

These are encouraging words which have a great impact on the twins: Sun Yumeng and Sun Yutong. Born in 1994 in Nanjing, they are two outgoing girls who look exactly the same. In other words, they don’t differ from each other in appearance. They have taken part in many activities, which enabled them to accumulate much experience in performing. In 2012, the two sisters took part in the show Who’s Still Standing（一站到底）and made a breakthrough, becoming the champion. Since then, they have attracted the attention of the media. In addition, they are hard-working in study and have overcome many difficulties. Finally, their efforts paid off. They were both admitted to Harvard University in 2016 as postgraduates（研究生）.

二．Language points learning

Students are divided into four groups to have a competition. The student who answers the question correctly and most quickly will get one point for his/her group.

1. Figure out the usage of the key words and expressions through the context. Then, try to use the words and expressions to make up some sentences or fill in the blanks to complete the sentences.

1）(课文原句) In pairs, look at these pictures and discuss which ones are natural clones and which ones are man-made. Explain how they differ.
