Step Ⅰlead in(2 minutes)

Chant and claps

T: So, we know the key words “invent, inventor, invention”.

T: Let’s do some puzzles.(let students guess what is it according to the description to lead in the topic ”inventors and inventions”)

Step Ⅱ warming up(5 minutes)

T: when we talk about inventions, firstly, I think of the Chinese ancient great inventions, do you know what are they? (show the pictures of Chinese ancient inventions----paper, compass ,printing , gun-power and some western important inventions, such as electric bulb, the early train and airplane).

T: now, we know these inventions are very important, they changed our life, even our history and our society. In our daily life, we are surrounded by many inventions, we can’t imagine what our life will be like without these inventions, can you find out them? let’s enjoy some interesting invention and see how they help us in the daily life. (let students guess the function of these inventions and talk about them freely )

step Ⅲpre-reading

T: Problems can arise anywhere at any time. Now here is a problem of snakes.(show a picture of snakes)Are you afraid of it? Do you know something about it? If the snake come into your house, what will you do to solve the problem?

Now, look at the title of the reading passage. What can you guess about the content of the passage from the title? To answer the question you should try to predict the content of the reading material by reading the title and looking at the pictures in the text. The title of the text is THE PROBLEM OF THE SNAKES. (Let students discuss this question with their partner, then ask some students to report their work.)

Then give students another question: if you are going to catch the snakes, what will you do? (Students may give different answers.)

T: very good! Let’s read this passage and see how the writer solve the problem of snakes.

Step Ⅳ fast-reading

Get the students to read the passage quickly and find out the main idea, and then divide the text into several parts and work out the main idea for each paragraph.

T: Now, please read the passage quickly, divide the whole passage into several parts and find out the main idea of each part.(after reading, let students check the answers with their partners, then ask some students to answer it alone.)
