Teaching Procedures:

Step 1 Warming-up

Ask a question “How to divide 13 oranges among 9 children?” Which lead to the title of the unit----Inventors and inventions.

Ask students to think what are the four great inventions in ancient China.

Show students some pictures and ask students to describe what is an invention and what is a discovery.

Step 2 Pre-reading

Ask two questions : Are you scared of snakes? What will you do if they are in your courtyard? These two questions will lead to the reading part.

Step3 Reading

1. Skimming for the general idea

Every inventor must go through some stages before they can have their invention approved? Here are the stages. Please put them in the suitable order.

Applying for a patent

Finding a problem

Doing research
