Therefore, the students are expected to learn communicatively and co-operatively in the class activities. All the strategies and ideas in my teaching are well based on the New English Curriculum Syllabus for Senior Students.

II. Analysis of the Teaching Material and Students

The content of my lesson is New Senior English for China Book 8 Unit3. This unit is about Inventors and Inventions. By studying of this unit, we’ll enable students to know the difference between discoveries and inventions but also the process of the invention and develop the interest in inventing something.Listening material in the workbook of this unit is chosen to be the material of this class because we focus on listening to a dialogue about mobile phone functions and then discuss about it and design a new concept mobile with special functions. Students can learn how to introduce an invention. As we all know, listening belongs to the input during the process of the language learning. The input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. Therefore, this lesson is in the important position of this unit. If the Ss can master it well, it will be helpful for them to learn the rest of this unit, for example they can write a good application letter after class.The listening dialogue is about mobile phone from the workbook in Unit3. It introduces different functions of normal mobiles now and 3G phones.

The students are Senior 3 students. They are active in study, have curiosity to learn and eager to express their own opinions. After studying more than 2 years in senior school, they have grasped some skills to do the listening exercise. But speaking is a little difficult for them. So we should try to let them study in a relaxed and agreeable atmosphere. They can learn English better through seeing, hearing, speaking, thinking and imagination.

III. Teaching Aims

By studying the teaching material and analyzing the situation of my students, I put forward the following teaching aims according to New English Curriculum Syllabus for Senior Students.

Aims on the knowledge

(1) Students will be able to master useful listening techniques: prediction and key words.

(2) Students will be able to acquire the speaking strategies and know how to describe an invention.

2. Aims on the abilities

(1) To develop the students’ abilities of listening and speaking.

(2) To foster the students’ abilities of communication and innovation

(3) To train students’ critical thinking while listening to others’ ideas.

Aims on emotion

(1) To cultivate Students’awareness of inventing. They will be able to understand inventions change our lives and they will keep thinking and always be creative.

(2) To arouse the students’ interest and self-confidence in oral English through some activities.

(3) To train the students’ ability of cooperation.

IV. Teaching focus and difficult Points

Teaching focus

1. How to catch information when listen to the recorder;

2. How to describe an invention.

Teaching difficult points

1.Students might have difficulties in retelling according to some key words.

2.The difficult point for teaching is how to make the students learn to describe inventions .
