1.3 Reading讲述了发生在伦敦剧院外的一幕。主要人物有Eliza, Higgins, Pickering。Eliza原是伦敦市的一名卖花女,在一次偶然的情况下遇见了以能听懂别人口音而自傲的Professor Higgins。

课前准备

笔者在课前布置学生收集萧伯纳及其作品的资料,让学生了解萧伯纳及其生活的背景,课上让学生进行介绍。

3.教案

3.1 lead-in

借助warming-up中的三幅画讨论皮格马利翁这个希腊故事,让学生借助已有知识,再现详细故事。

Pygmalion was a very gifted artist. He hated women, and especially hated the idea of getting married. He spent a long time making a stone statue of a beautiful woman out of ivory. It was so beautiful that he couldn’t help loving it and wanted it to be his wife.But it was only a stone. How could he make his dream become true? He thought and thought and at last he asked the Greek Goddess to help him to bring it to life.

The Greek Goddess agreed to help and his wish was granted. The statue was made into a real woman. The two married and lived happily ever after.

紧接着介绍皮格马利翁效应:

The Pygmalion Effect is that people tend to behave as you expect they will. If you expect a person to take responsibility, they probably will. If you expect them not to even try, they probably won’t.

3.2 Pre-reading

通过皮格马利翁的希腊神话故事引入萧伯纳的戏剧,对比两者

This play by Bernard Shaw is an adaptation of the Greek story. They have the same theme.引导学生说出戏剧的主题。

接着让学生来介绍背景知识萧伯纳。

3.3 reading

3.3.1 介绍戏剧的六要素,为欣赏戏剧打下基础Plot Character Thought Diction Music Spectacle 。

3.3.2 要求学生进行skimming,并完成下面题目:

What are the main characters of this act?

What do they do respectively?

What are they doing at the beginning of the play?

Tip: Some information is included in the stage directions, like the character, time, place, weather, lighting, etc.

3.3.3 要求学生进行scanning,并完成下面题目:

Eliza greeted to the gentleman in order to ____.

A.talk with him

B. ask him to buy some flowers from her
