Teaching procedures:
Step I Lead-in
1.Review the family background of Mrs Reed and their characteristic.
John Reed—rude,cruel,violent
Eliza Reed—selfish
Mrs.Reed—stubborn,mean,cruel
Bessie—scold Jane, speak ill of Jane
2.Work in pairs and retell Chapter I according to the key words and pictures given.
window-seat----John----bullied--threw the book at Jane---cut---fought back---shocked---locked
Step II Main characters
1.Figure out the new main characters. (white hat, fact)
Scene 1
T:After Jane was locked in the red room, she was ill and a new character was introduced. Who was he and what was he?
Ss: He was Dr. Llord and he was a doctor.
T: Correct, but he is a doctor for whom? Do you think Mrs. Reed herself would send for him?
Ss: He was a doctor for Servant.

Scene 2
Then Mrs Reed called Jane to the breakfast room, and Mr. Brocklehurst was there too.
