Period1 Warming-up and reading教学设计
Textbook Analysis
With the title Inside advertising, Unit 5 focuses on several issues about advertising ,such as the purpose of advertising, the ways to make effective ads and advertising controls and so on.
My teaching material serves as the first part of this unit, which covers two parts warming-up , which aims to guide students to increase their awareness of the role of advertising in their lives, and the reading material-How advertising works ,which discusses the purpose of ads and how advertisers decide where and how to advertise.
Students Analysis
Although the topic of advertising is familiar to students ,yet how advertising works and the advertising techniques sound new to most of them. This reading material with some compound sentences and a few other new words may set an obstacle to comprehension. Having reached a higher level of reading ability , my students are expected to be able to deal with this long and seemingly difficult text using acquired reading skills. In addition, the students are asked to preview the new words and read the passage beforehand.
Teaching goals
1. Language ability
At the end of this class , my students will be able to know the purpose of advertisements and try to describe what is said in different ads .While reading a passage called How advertising works, students use acquired reading skills to get the main content of the passage,learning some new words, phrases and some expressions of this part ,such as advertisement,grab,conscience,worthy citizens, walking advertisements,expense , turn into , fit into, have no use for and so on.
Cultural awareness
Students get to realize the role of the advertising in their lives and learn to appreciate the charm of the advertisements. Besides, the students ought to learn to judge the ads by themselves and learn to avoid being controlled by ads.
Thinking quality
Students describe their own opinions correctly and properly and practise their critical thinking.
Learning ability.
While reading, students use some acquired reading skills to get the structure of the passage. Besides, they learn to share their opinions with others in groups and learn to design their own advertisements .

1. Students comprehend the passage How advertising works and improve their reading comprehension and oral English. They will be more confident in reading and speaking.
2. Students learn to design an ad and gradually know the techniques used by advertisers.
3. Students can express themselves fluently and properly.
