4.Be aware of ads and don't blindly accept ads.

Difficult point: reading skills

Key points: reading skills and developing awareness of telling ads apart.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Lead-in

Use a fan to lead in the topic of this unit: What is it on the fan?

Step2 Pre-reading

Show students pictures of ads and ask them: Do you believe these ads? Why?

Step 3 While-reading

1) Skim the passage and find out the main idea of it,then find out ways to prevent dishonest advertising.

2)Scan para1 and answer the questions:

Why do organizations and individuals advertise?

Can we believe what advertisers tell us?

3) Scan para2 and answer the question:

What is the force of law in advertising?

4) Read para3 loudly and fill in the blanks

5) Invite one student to read para4 then do T or F on the screen.

6) read the last para together and answer questions on the screen.

Step 4 Post-reading

1) read the passage again and fill in the mind-map

2) discussion: Nowadays there are many bad ads aiming at old people who are easily to be cheated. What should we do to prevent old people from being cheated?

3) writing: write a letter of suggestion in groups. Group1,2,3 write para 1(the problem of ads)

Group 4,5,6 write para 2(the negative influence caused by ads)

Group 7,8,9 write para3(suggestions)

Invite ss to share their compositions.
