The students will be able to recognize different types of the text and analyze their characteristics.

The students will be able to master a framework of describing a country or a place.

Teaching process:

Step 1 Brainstorm

Show the flag of Austrlia and ask Students to guess what country it is.

Brainstorm the information they know about Australia. Invite one of the students to present what she knows.

Use a mindmap to introduce students what aspects may include when describing a country

Step 2: Skimming

Ask students to skim the text and finish the following two tasks:

Task 1.What aspect of the topic is discussed in each text (eg scenery, animals, politics...)?

Task 2. Match each reading passage with a description below.

Before students read the text, give them some instructions about how to skim the text.

Instructions:

Read the title and subtitle.

Read the introduction or the first paragraph.

Read the first sentence of every paragraph.

Notice any pictures, charts, or graphs(图表).

Notice any italicized (斜体字) or boldface (黑体字) words or phrases.

Read the summary or last paragraph.

Ask students to try to analyze the characteristics of each type of the text.

Step 4: summarize the the characteristics of each type of the text.
