Analysis of the students:
The targeted students are senior in high school and they are supposed to acquire some certain abilities in cognition, which enable them to obtain, process, analyze and solve problems using English. Although many students have heard of, or even have read the play King Lear, it is the first time that the majority of students have seen the English version of the play. Therefore, it will be both interesting and challenging for students to read. Based on the personality of the teenagers, some fascinating activities are designed to encourage them to take part in the class and give them a platform to show themselves.
Teaching goals:
I . Knowledge goals:
1. To enable students to understand the text’s forms and contents and learn about English dramas.
2. To enable students to understand the theme of the play.
II. Ability goal:
To help students communicate on the topic in focus with the words, collocations and structures learned in this unit
Ш. Emotional goals:
1. To make the students be familiar with Shakespeare.
2. To instruct the students to analyze the desire, the greed and the greatness of the different characters and help students form correct senses of value and outlook on life.
Teaching important and difficult points:
1. How to enable the students to have a better understanding of the theme of the play.
2. How to enable the students to analyze the personality of each character by their words and actions.

Teaching Procedures:
Warming up by showing a poster handed out by “Shakespeare” to recruit some actors and actresses.
In the process, the teacher will get in touch with Shakespeare through the Wechat to check whether the information on the poster is true. During the conversation, the play King Lear is mentioned.
Pre-reading---about King Lear
After the Wechat with Shakespeare, the background information about the play is presented on the screen to prepare the students for the reading.
Reading
Step 1 Skimming (class work)
During the stage, the students are asked to skim the first paragraph to find out all the characters and the relationship between them.
Intention: The students can be better prepared to read the play by knowing the main characters and their relationship.
