Teaching Procedures:
Step1.Warming-up
The teacher shows a picture taken from a native movie” Qing Ting Shao Nian” and asks the students what the boys are doing. In the picture, Kaiwen asks Kaiwu how far the moon is from the earth. If they were Kaiwu, what would they do. The teacher has a book about the mysteries of the moon. How would they look up the information in the book. A student answers ”to skim the contents”. In this part, the teacher leads the students to the topic of reading techniques.
Step2.Pre-reading
In this part, the teacher asks the students to match different kinds of texts with different reading styles. The texts include novel, newspapers, recipe, and instruction.
Step3.Reading
First of all, the teacher asks the students to predict the main idea of the passage according to the three pictures and the title. Meanwhile, they can refer to the captions blow the pictures.
Then, the teacher asks the students to do the comprehending task while reading. Match the headings and sub-headings with the related sentences. In this section, the students can use gap-filling skills--summarizing, paying attention to the logical relations of the sentences and so on.
Lastly, the teacher assigns a task—Making posters.
The students are supposed to choose three sentences that they think are the most important from the passage. Besides, they can draw some pictures. After they finish them, each group member acts as a judge and should give one score to the other group. They should grade on the following four aspects.
