Step 2 Reading
The aim of this section is to tell the students what’s the good reading habit.
1. Skimming (look through the passage quickly to get the main idea)
Below are the headings and sub-headings for the reading passage. Write them in the correct place in the text.
Headings 1 Summary: Adopt good readers' techniques in our own reading.
2 Learn the techniques of good readers.
3 Practice makes perfect.
4 Make your reading practice enjoyable.
Sub-headings
a A good reader reads in different ways depending on the purpose for reading.
b Before reading in detail, good readers preview the text.
c A good reader reads actively not passively.
d A good reader doesn’t need to understand every word.
Scanning (look at the passage carefully but quickly for the key words)
The key words or phrases of each part and try to help the students draw a thinking guide.
Detailed reading: (read the passage aloud and answer the following questions)
假设今天是4月23日--世界读书日。为了培养学生好读书、读好书的习惯、丰富学生课余文化生活,我班特举办读书知识竞赛。活动内容如下:1)以小组为单位参赛;2)竞赛题由三个部分组成:必答题:每组抽签回答一个问题,每题10分;抢答题:主持人说开始后方可抢答,否则扣10分,每题5分;附加题:各小组展示一个作文中的好句子,根据内容判定10-30分。
1)Required questions:
1.What's the commonly accepted idea of how to succeed? Do you agree with it?
2. What text can you choose to practise with? How do you know the text is suitable to read?
3. When will you find reading more enjoyable? Can you give an example?
4.Before reading a text in detail, why do you need preview activities ?
5. What will a good reader do, if there are no preview questions?
