Teching procedure:
Step 1 Lead in
Make a survey among students:
What do you think a competent reader does while doing reading?
A. Read sentence by sentence, referring to the dictionary when there are new words.
B. Read quickly and guess the unknown words from the context.
C. Preview the text before reading, brainstorming some background knowledge about it.
D. Read the text over and over again, trying to find out the writer's attitude, feeling and purpose.
Ask for several students opinions, stating their reasons.
In this period, we’ll go through a journey which will help you to become a successful reader.

Read the text and write the headings and sub-headings for the passage.
