Having learned eight modules, students must have grasped the reading strategies and skills such as skimming, scanning. Therefore, while learning module 10, students should be trained to master the high order reading skills, such as grasping the text structures and appreciating the language of the text. Also, students should learn and internalize the process of writing under the guidance of the teacher. In this period, after reading the passage, they will learn how to grasp the structure of the text and master some wonderful chunks and sentences patterns as knowledge input. In the writing part, they will try to apply what they have learned about the chunks and sentences patterns to writing practice as a natural output.

三、教学目标(Teaching Objectives)

1. 知识目标 (Knowledge Objectives)

Through reading and writing, all the students should learn how to offer suggestions in the letter of advice and master some good and useful expressions and apply them to writing practice.

2. 语言技能目标 (Language Skill Objectives)

Reading skills: Enable the students to improve the reading skills of scanning for specific information and grasping the some key chunks and sentence patterns.

Writing skills: Enable the students to acquire the writing skills of offering suggestions, such as expressing empathy, and offering advice logically.

3. 学习策略 (Learning Strategies)

All learners engage themselves in the classroom reading and writing activities and try to improve themselves in both reading and writing. In addition, they learn to share information and ideas with their partners or group members, make suggestions on how to improve their writing, learn from each other and raise the awareness of cooperation.

4. 情感目标 (Emotional Objectives)

Most of the learners are able to overcome the fear of writing and increase their confidence in expressing themselves in English accurately.

四.教学重难点 (Key and difficult points)

Reading to grasp useful chucks expressions and writing an article adopting process-oriented approach are the key points.

Applying what they have gained in reading to writing and the accuracy in writing are the difficult points.

五、教学方法(Teaching Methods)

1. 任务型教学法 Task-based Language Teaching Approach

2. 过程性写作法 Process-oriented Approach

(The New Curriculum advocates Task-based Language Teaching Approach, which is student-centered. The teacher sets effective tasks for the students to complete, which can enable the students to learn in doing. In writing, process-oriented approach is used. During the writing process, the teacher can give timely and proper guidance, ensuring the students to express accurately.)

六、教学过程 (Teaching Procedures)

Step I: Lead-in

Enjoy a short video. It is about an old German who began to learn English after retired in order to go to the UK to see his grandchild. He practiced English day in and day out, using different methods and he made it at last. After watching the video, some questions are about it to introduce the topic of giving advice. (1).Why did the old man want to learn English? (2). How did he make it? (3). If you want to learn English well, what tips do you get from the video?

(The purpose is to arouse their interest and state the topic of this period.)

Step II: Reading & Practicing

Task1. Reading

The reading part consists of two short passages. The email on the textbook is the assignment for the students to read before the period. The letter on the handout is for them to read after in this period. Read the letter in 3 minutes and then answer questions about it. (1). what’s the problem Nancy met with? (2). who gave her suggestions? What did they suggest? (3).Underline the sentence structures when they offer advice.
