6. write a letter of advice appropriately.

1. Guide the students to conclude the steps of writing a letter of advice;

2. Guide the students to learn how to organize sentences and connect sentences in a letter of advice.

1. How to guide the students to put the five steps into practice;

2. How to guide the students to organize better sentences in their writing.

Analysis of the students and the contents:

The students in this period of class are in Senior Three. They perform quite well in English study. As they have studied in senior middle school for nearly three years and they are going to take the College Entrance Examinations, they have learnt and practiced a lot about writing in English. Besides, they have also learnt enough vocabularies and expressions to help them with their writing. Up to now, different kinds of writings are familiar to them, including letters of advice. So they have some knowledge of letters of advice. However, they never have a clear idea of how to write such a letter and don’t know how to make their letter better either. So in this lesson, they are going to get a clear idea of how to write a letter of advice.

The letter of advice is a quite important form of practical writings in our daily life. So it makes this period of class quite necessary. Students can not only learn how to put the expressions they have learnt before into their writing but also combine what they can learn in class with their daily life. It is also an essential part in the College Entrance Examinations. Students are going to be interested in it.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Lead in (2 mins)

The teachers and the students greet each other. The teacher leads in the class with communicating with the students about their ways of helping their friends who are in need and brings in the topic about writing a letter of advice. Then the teacher shows the students a letter from Tang Chen.

Step 2: Get the outline of a letter of advice (26 mins)

Task 1: Brainstorm (individual task: 3 mins)

The teacher guides the students to get Tang Chen’s problem and let students think of as many suggestions as possible.

Task 2: Discussion (partner task: 4 mins)
