ⅠAnalysis of the teaching material
This is the last period of the flipped lesson which covers writing in the fourth unit, Legends of Ancient Greece, Book 11.There is no fixed material in the book, thus urging me to search for some interesting and doable content with local characteristic. I base the lesson on a storyline which is about a reply to my Greek friend named Joy to introduce the legends of Yichang. I create the teaching material which can not only help students have a better understanding of western culture, broaden their international horizon, but appreciate ,propagate our local traditional culture ,build up the cultural self-confidence and the emotion of“family-country”.
ⅡAnalysis of the students
So far the students have been equipped with enough English words and useful expressions, which enable the students to complete challenging tasks and express themselves in a logic way. Therefore, they can rewrite some sentence and polish the writing by using advanced words and complex grammar structure, such as attributive clause, nominal clause, non-finite verb, inversion or emphasis and so on.
Ⅲ Teaching objectives
According to key competences, namely language ability, thinking quality, culture awareness, and learning ability, the teaching objectives as follow:
1. Students can rewrite some sentences and polish the writing using advanced words, attributive clause, nominal clause, non-finite verb, inversion or emphasis and so on.
2. Students can use the techniques of critical thinking while writing and build up their own opinions by reflecting and comparing the useful tips of polishing writing.
3. Students can have a better understanding of western culture, appreciate, propagate our local traditional culture and build up the cultural self-confidence.
Ⅳ Important points
Students will be able to tell the legends of Greece and Yichang. Meanwhile, they can write excellent legends of Yichang in English.
2. Students can rewrite some sentences and polish the writing by using advanced words, attributive clause, nominal clause, non-finite verb, inversion or emphasis and so on.
Ⅴ Difficult points
Students don’t know how to simplify the long sentences even if they have learnt some advanced words, and some grammar structures.
Students don’t know how to polish the letter introducing the legends of Yichang by using advanced words, attributive clause, nominal clause, non-finite verb, inversion or emphasis and so on.
