Teaching procedure:

Step 1. Warming up:

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to my class! In today’s lesson, we’re going to learn how to make greeting cards and notes.

Have you ever received a greeting card? Who was it from? What was it about? What other feeling can people express in a greeting card?

(congratulations, thanks, greetings, celebrations, care, love, wishes, goodbye, sympathy…)

Do you know the pattern of a card? Or do you know how to make cards?

(If the students know, ask them to share. If they don’t know, just move to the next step to ask them to find out the answer.)

(These two steps aim to remind the function and structure of greeting cards.)

Step 2. Greeting cards:

Focus on the function of greeting cards:

Look at the six greeting cards on Page 1 and try to find out the receiver’s name.

Card 3 a. Bill is going to America.

Card 5 b. Mary is in hospital.

Card 4 c. Britta cleaned her friend’s house when her friend was sick.

Card 1 d. John has just started work.

Card 2 e. Karen starts her final exams tomorrow.

Card 6 f. Simon is working in another city for four weeks.

(2) Figure out the relationship between the writers and receivers.

How do you know their relationship?

(We can know the answer through words like “Love”, “Dear Darling…”and so on)

Show students the ending and the signature, and tell them the endings show whether people have close relationship.

Focus on the structure/organization of a greeting card

According to the six greeting cards, judge the structure of a greeting card.
