Type of the lesson: reading and writing

Material Analysis

The lesson that I am going to teach is taken from English Book4Unit5 Theme Parks--Fun and More Than Fun, published by People’s Education Press. This is a reading and writing class. The reading text is about the introduction of the three famous theme parks in the world. Though the topic of this text is not familiar to the students, it is very interesting to learn. And it is not so easy to cover it within a class because there are many new words and difficult sentence structures. Therefore, I plan to cover it within 2 class hours. And in this first lesson of the text, I’ll help the students get a general picture of the text. Then, I’ll combine the text with the writing in this unit and guide the students to finish simple email writing.

Learners Analysis

The students that I am going to teach are the first-year students of senior high school. They have learned English for more than 3 years. For the linguistic ability, they may have some vocabulary and sentence patterns to help them generally understand the reading but there are still some sentences needing to be explained. In addition, the students at this age are usually active and curious. They need chances to think and express their ideas. Therefore, in this class, I intend to design some tasks to stimulate their interest, and to guide them to express their ideas.

Teaching Methodology

My teaching philosophy

In today’s language teaching, teachers should play a role of a guider instead of a

leader. The teacher should not tell the students everything, but provide support for students to find out the useful information on their own. Another key factor in language teaching is interaction. Therefore, the class time should be given to the students’ interactive activities.
