Get students to know the steps in writing process.

Help students to go over the most commonly used transitional words.

Guide students to write a composition which shows different opinions step by step.

Teaching procedures:

Lead-in

T: Why do people write?

Ss: …

T: Yes, as you all know, writing is indeed very important in language learning. By writing we can not only put down what we see and how we feel, it can also consolidate learning. But are you clear of the steps in the writing process?

Presentation

Ask students to put the given writing steps in logical order.

Discussion

⑴ Ask students to discuss “ what makes a good composition ?” in groups of four.

⑵ Collect answers from different groups.

⑶ Summarize the key points from students and add some information students have missed.

4. Revision of transitional words

. Ask students to make a list of transitional words and phrases they know.

. Collect answers from them

. Highlight the transitional words and phrases on the screen and ask students in what cases will these be used.

5. Writing

⑴. Give students the writing task. “ Young teachers or elderly teachers, which do you prefer?”

⑵. Ask students to discuss and finish the following tasks in groups before writing.

How many parts are you going to write and what will each part talk about?

②. What words or phrases will you possibly use in your composition and list them.

③. What transitional words will you possibly use and list them.

④. What sentence structures/patterns will you use and write out one or two, if possible.
