III. Analysis of students
After many years of learning English, students have relatively accumulated a great deal of vocabulary and acquired some reading skills, thus laying a good foundation for understanding this passage.
The task of this module is getting students to grasp some ides of global warming, which can both foster their knowledge of global warming and shoulder their responsibilities of our mother earth’s protection.
As for students of science, it’s really easy to read the graphs and interesting to get in touch of the numbers constantly listed in the text.
Also, environment protection will be a potential major for their future career.
Students of science are lack of communication and oral practice in class, so it’s of vital importance to design some activities to make them active and talk more by using the target language.
IV. Design of Teaching Objectives
Knowledge objectives
Students can read and use the language points in this passage, especially the newly-learnt and commonly-used words related to the topic.
Ability objectives
(1). Students can have a better comprehension of the reading text by learning some reading skills. Only through this intensive and extensive reading process can they develop their reading ability.
(2). Students can also develop the abilities of speaking and writing by taking part in the group discussion and finishing related homework.
3. Affective objectives
(1). Students can understand the meaning of protecting the environment, thus sowing a seed of this job.
(2). Students can build up the correct values and views on life, especially the virtues of leading a low carbon life.
(3). Students can strengthen their team spirit and performing abilities in the group work.
V. Teaching Methods
1. Task-based approach to specify tasks conducted either by individuals or groups; Communicative approach to both motivate language use and to set up interpersonal skills.
2. Specific reading strategies to help students develop good reading skills and enable them to build up comprehensive linguistic abilities.
(1). Pre-reading strategies
(a). Enjoying a video to cultivate students’ interest in reading and to make reading more intriguing and purposeful and therefore to result in better comprehension.
(b). Oral presentation to both provoke students’ motivation in further reading and expressing themselves by using the target language.
(2). While-reading strategies
Skimming to get the general idea of the passage and analyzing the structure of the text to develop organizing skills in writing.
