Lesson Overview:

It's the second period of the lesson. 1st period focuses on the introduction of the author and basic comprehension of the story; 3rd period provides more opportunities for students to share their own writing.

It's a reading and creative writing combined literature class aiming to evoke students' creativity by responding to the literary text in a more self-contained way rather than the more traditional way of mere comprehending content and appreciating style and composition.

The first half of the class focuses on detailed reading to draw attention to certain literary techniques and the second half encourages students to brainstorm and to write cooperatively for the ending of the story based on the analysis in the previous part.

be able to understand and tell certain literary techniques like: the character, dilemma/ conflicts and plot structure.

be able to write a new reasonable ending for the story based on previous analysis.

Students may be more motivated in the kinesthetic activity for summarizing the characters.

The character and conflict analyze may help students understand better of the story yet be more reasonable in the later writing.

Students may be more confident in writing after group discussion.

It might be difficult for the students to summarize the features for each character.
