教学重点难点:

重点组织引导学生探究适合自己的速记技能,5个关键词的有效笔记安排,以及规范准确的故事复述。

难点是引导学生观察自己的故事复述,总结复述中的谬误,从中学习,不断完善。

Teaching aims:

1.To review the requirements of NMET listening and speaking test so that they will attach great importance to it.

2.To bear vital strategies of Part C in mind, and learn 3 techniques concerning shorthand skill, 5 key words arrangement and accuracy in retelling.

3.To encourage students to share their thoughts on shorthand exercises as well as apply what they’ve learnt to the listening and speaking Test C in NMET of year 2017.

Procedures:

Step 1: Greeting and lead-in

Step 2: Warming-up excises

Task 1: listen to a story for the general idea

Before they listen, I guide them to predict the content of the story, with the help of a vivid picture. Then, students will listen to a story about catching fish to get the main idea.

Task 2: listen again for specific information.

1. What did I catch? 2. When did I catch it? 3. What did I do about it?

4. Why did I do that? 5 Which finger?

Task 3: listen to another English song for practicing making notes

You better _____ out. You better _____ _____. Better _____ pout. I’m _____ you _____.

_____ _____ is coming to _____. He is _____ _____ _____ and _____ it _____, gonna find out who is _____ or _____. Santa Claus is _____ to _____. He _____ you when you’re _____. He _____when you’re _____. He _____ if you have been _____ or _____. So, be _____, for goodness sake.

Step 3: How to improve Part C?

Task1:Students go over the requirements of Listening and Speaking Test of NMET for Guangdong province, filling out the blanks in the handout.

Task 2: Discussion in groups for finding out the most confusing problem in Part C. Some leaders of groups will present their results after discussion.

Task 3: Learn some valuable strategies and techniques to solve the problem raised from the previous discussion. ⑴Pre-listening—prediction, while-listening—5W1H, shorthand application, post-listening—form the story; ⑵shorthand skill, accompanied with consolidating exercises; ⑶5key words efficient arrangement; ⑷accuracy in story retelling.

The learning activities mentioned above will be carried out in forms of pair work, group work, etc. In the meanwhile, competition method will be applied.

Step 4: NMET listening and speaking Test C practice

Students will put what they will have learned into practice of listening and speaking Test C 2017, training their listening ability, shorthand skills, 5 key words efficient arrangement and retelling accuracy. While students are doing their practice, teacher will make notes on the blackboard, setting a good example. After listening, they share their shorthand with group members. Then, together we will analyze the notes on the blackboard, drawing a conclusion on the most useful and effective ways as our shorthand for making notes in Part C. Finally, they make presentation, retelling their story to each other, in the front, etc.
