IV. Teaching Procedures
Step1: revision and warm-up
First review the contents they learned in last unit and ask them how to ask for and give directions. And ask some questions:
“Where is the No.6 middle school? / Is there a police station near here? Where is it? How can I get there?
Step2: Lead-in
After asking them the question “Is there a police station near here?”, next show the picture of the police station and ask them “Who are they? What are they doing? I think maybe the policemen are asking some questions about the witness, maybe they want to know what the criminal looks like. So if you are the witness, can you describe the criminal’s looks? Today let’s talk about how to describe peoples’ looks.
Step3: Presentation
First ask them a question “Am I tall?” and write the words on the blackboard to talk about the words to describe people’s height. Next show some pictures of famous stars to learn the words about people’s build and hair. Then ask them to practice the sentence from these aspects. Just like:
What do/does sb look like? He/She is…… He/She has……
After practicing, let them situmulate where do we use “is” and where do we use “has”? Then show the contents on the screen. And then expand other words to describe people’s looks.
Step4: Practice
After learning the words and sentence structure, ask students to practice in pairs and in groups. Next give them 5 minutes to practice,then ask some pairs and groups to practice it. Other students should listen to them carefully and try to ask some questions about the conversation. Next turn to page49, to do the exercise of 1a, then listen to the tape, fill in the blanks in the picture of 1a, find Amy’s friend.
Step5: Play a memory and guessing game.
The teacher shows 5 pictures of students on the screen, then she describes them to the students, after describing , they need to match the pictures with the 5 students. The student who did the best will get 10 scores. Then show 5 famous stars, the teacher describe them to the students, let them guess who she is talking.
Step6: Summary
Sum up the whole contents of this class and do exercises of this class.
Step7: Homework
1. Write the key words and phrases of this class and recite them fluently.
