Background information:

Students: 62 senior middle school students, Senior 3

Lesson duration: 40 minutes

Teaching objectives:

By the end of lesson, students should be able to:

Knowledge aim: to figure out the classification of word formation and the definition of each category.

Ability aim: to guess the meanings of some new words in a more scientific way.

Emotion aim: to be more interested in learning English words and be more cooperative when discussing with their classmates.

Important points:

Enable the students to have a clear idea of word formation and to give some examples of each category.

Difficult points:

Inspire the students to do some exercises correctly according to the explanation of word formation.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Lead-in

The teacher inspires the students at the very beginning of this class by making use of some questions.

1. Write “pre-historical power” on the blackboard and ask students to guess the meaning of it. Meanwhile, ask students which way they use when guessing.

----洪荒之力;When they guess the meaning of “pre-historical power”, they use prefix and suffix, which belong to word formation.

2. Ask students in which book they learned word formation

----Module4, Unit5.
