Step 1 Lead-in
(1) Watch a video/chant about “there be”. The chant is: in my room, there is a bed.
(2) After watching the video, fill in blanks according to the video:
In my room, there is a .
There’s a on the bed.
Beside the bed, there is a rug.
There is a on the rug.
Beside the bed, there is a desk.
On the desk, there is a .
(3) Introduce the old pictures of our school with “there be”:
There was a pool in front of the gate. There was a old gate behind. There is a big playground. There are many trees around it…
Step 2 Free talk
Try to talk about our school using
“There be……” Please try not to repeat others’ sentences.
Step 3 Definition
Present the definition：There be句型表示某处存在某物或某人
（1）there是引导词,本身无词义;
（2）be为谓语动词,后面跟的是名词,也就是主语
Examples:
(1).There is a bird on the tree.
(2). There are many students in the classroom.
Step 4 single or plural of “be”
(1) There a book on the desk.
(2) There many books on the desk.
(3) There little soup in the bowl.
(4) There a book and two pens on the desk.
Tips:动词be单复数形式要跟there be之后的真正的主语一致。并且要根据就近一致原则来变换be 的单复数形式
