Teaching steps
Step I Warming-up
Play a game “bomb 5”. Students count one by one from “1”. When someone says 5 or the times of 5, the others say “bomb” to him or her.
Then show students the learning goals.
Step II Daily routines
Play a video “Tom’s busy morning”. Ask students to write down the activities as many as possible while watching. Ask one student to write on the whiteboard.
After watching, check the phrases on the whiteboard. Add two new phrases: make one’s bed, wash one’s face.
Retell Tom’s morning by looking at some pictures from the video.
Step III Pair work
Lead: This is Tom’s morning. What about your morning? Show students a clock. The teacher controls it and shows different times and activities. The students are supposed ask and answer like this:
A: What time do you usually get up?
B: I usually get up at 6:30.
C. What time does he/she usually get up?
D. He/She usually gets up at 6:30.
Then work on 3a. Students do 3a by themselves. The teacher takes number one and number two as examples. Students finish the rest. One student writes on the screen. Then check the answers by asking four or five pairs.
Step IV Adverbs of frequency
Circle the adverbs of frequency in 3a. Add more on the whiteboard. Show students some examples. Let them think where to put frequency words. Then ask them to make sentences with the adverbs of frequency. One student comes to the platform and put the adverbs of frequency to the right place.
Step V The simple present tense
Lead: When we talk about daily life, what tense do we use? The simple present tense. Ask students to think about the definition, the structure and the key words. Then watch a micro-lesson about the simple present tense. After watching, ask students to say the definition, the structure and the key words.
Step VI Game time
There are six clocks. Students choose clocks they like. Under each clock, there is a number. If they finish the task, they’ll get some gifts.
Step VII Group work
Show students two pictures of themselves. Lead: On school days, we usually do the same thing at the same time. Show students a table. Lead them to say sentences like: We usually exercise at 5:30. The teacher asks: Then what do usually do on weekends? Ask students to discuss in groups of four. Write down the activities on different colored papers. They are supposed to give a report after five minutes.
After that, show students “The teachers’ words”: Arrange time reasonably! Balance between work and leisure! Have healthy habits!
