Part2: Analysis of students:
The students of this stage are active, quick in thought and eager to show what they know. They have learnt English for a few years and have a certain ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing. But they lack opportunities to express themselves in English. Therefore, in my class, I will provide them more chances to communicate and use language in real situations.
Part3: Teaching objectives:
Knowledge:
To learn some useful expressions about instuments, such as: play the guitar, play the violin, play the drums, play the piano…
Ability:
To skim for the titles through the topic sentences;
To scan for specific information through key words;
Emotion:
To develop their spirit of cooperation through pair work and group work.
Part4: Teaching and learning methods:
Task-based teaching method;
Situational teaching method;
Students will be encouraged to learn though individual work, pair work and group work.
Part5: Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 lead-in (5mins)
Show some pictures of the Second Foreign Languages Festival they had two weeks ago. Ask students what they can do on the festival, which aims to practice the sentence pattern: “… can… “
Then lead in The Second Art Festival, which will be held next term. Show them some vedios of the First Art Festival, and ask them what they can do on the festival.
Then create a scene that another English teacher, Maggie and I need to prepare for the Second Art Festival. We need students’ help.
Step 2 present(20mins)
Task 1 (New words and phrases ) (3mins)
The scene: Maggie and I need to tell the instruments first.
Ask the students to help us tell the instruments.Listen to the music and tell the instuments.
Task 2: (Listening and speaking)(10mins)
The scene: Maggie goes to a music club to find students for the school show. She talks with three students.
Listen to the conversation and circle the words and phrases you hear.
Listen again and fill in the chart. what they can do and can’t do?
Speaking (pair work) : talk about what they can do and can’t do.
Task3: (Reading)(12mins)
The scene: I need to go to the school notice board to write an ad for the school show.
