S: ...

T: Sisters, brothers, friends, classmates, Xiao Ming next door.

T: When comparing, what word do we always use?

S: than

Step 2 Presentation

Show the pictures and compare them by “than”. Find the rules of comparative forms of the adjective and adverb and then finish the chart and point out how to add “-r” and how to double the final letter and add “-er”.

T: Now let’s have a try. I will hand out some cards to you and there are some adjectives and adverbs on the cards. Think about which line the word should be. If I say “-er”, the one who get the cards must come up to the board and stick it to the board as fast as you can.

The sudents try to find the right rule for his own words to get familiar with the rules and learn from the mistakes.

Review the rules again.

T: Look at the sentences carefully and fill in the blanks of Task 4.

Lead students to find the patterns of comparative sentences.

3. Check answers.

Step 4 Practice

T: So we can find the word “than” is everywhere in our life. Maybe you don’t like it, but if you try to see it in a different view, everything may change, just like the picture, an old woman to a beautiful lady, bad to good. In fact, if you change your view, the word “than” can make you better. And today Miss Ning got a hat. It can help you to become better.

Introduce the rule of Task 5 by asking and checking.

T: Now I say “I’m beautiful.” If you get the hat, what will you say?

T: What should you do then?
