III.Teaching Procedures
Step 1 Lead- in
Show a short video about teacher’s New Year’s resolutions.
Ss talk about teacher’s resolutions.
Ss talk about their own resolutions with “I’m going to …”
(设计意图:通过展示老师的新年决心帮助学生复习“I’m going to…”句型,并且引出了文章的主题resolutions,为阅读文章作铺垫。 )
Step 2 Skimming
Ss skim the article and underline the topic sentence of each paragraph.
Teacher explains what the topic sentence is.
Check the answers by asking several students.
Ss match the paragraphs with the main ideas.
Teacher check the answers by inviting a student to match them on the blackboard.
(设计意图:指导学生运用略读的策略迅速找出中心句,掌握文章段落大意,有助于学生宏观把握文章的主旨。)
Step 3 Skipping
Ss skip the article and put the letters [A-D] in the correct places.
Teacher help Ss finish the first paragraph by contacting the context.
Ss finish the rest two paragraphs.
Ss discuss their answers with partners.
Several students share their answers.
(设计意图:在进行跳读的阅读策略时,教师先帮助学生完成第一段的练习,让学生对跳读的策略有了概念再独立进行剩下的练习,之后让学生互相讨论,更加深了对跳读策略的理解。)
Step 4 Scanning
Ss scan the article and answer the questions with short sentences.
Teacher check the answers.

Step 5 Group work
Teacher gives a topic “The best resolution is to have no resolutions.”
Ss are divided into two sides to talk about their opinions if they agree or disagree with the sentence.
Several representatives of each side debate with each other.
