Step2.Teacher asks students to skim the two letters to find the topic sentence .
S1: Letter 1-I do not understand why parents make their kids help chores
S2: Letter 2-I think it is important for children to learn how to do chores
Teacher continues to ask where the topic sentence is.
Students answer the first sentence is the topic sentence

Step 3. Task 1-What are the letter 1 and letter 2 mainly about?
S1:Letter 1 tells us that kids shouldn’t do chores at home.
S2:Letter 2 tells us that kids should do chores at home.
Tr points one coin and ask what it is. Ss say it’s a coin.Tr explains that every coin has two sides.(任何事物有两面性) Then tr tells students that pros and cons refer two different ideas towards one thing.
Task 2-Skim again and find how many pros and cons are mentioned in two letters.
Students get some main ideas from the passage
cons:
1.Kids have stress from school
2.They don’t have time to do chores.
3.Housework is a waste of time
Pros:
1.Doing chores can develop kids’ independence
2.Kids depend on their parents too much.
