V. Teaching Procedures
Step One: Lead in
1. Present a picture of a family doing housework and ask students questions about what they see to lead in the topic—doing chores.
2. Ask students to talk freely to make them review the expressions learnt before and prepare for the following topic.
Step Two: New words
Present the new words on the screen, and teach them to read the new words and get familiar with their meanings before reading so that it’ll be a little easier for them to understand.
Step Three: Pre-reading
1. Present the picture from 2b, ask students what the girl is doing and how she feels.
2. Then ask students to discuss the question: Do you think kids should help out with chores at home?
Step Four: While-reading
Tasks:
1. Tell students to find key words in each question before reading, then ask them to read quickly in this way and answer the questions on the screen.
2. Check the answers.
3. Lead students to observe the questions that were answered just now, and try to guess the definition of skimming.
4. Do more exercise to strengthen their understanding for skimming.
5. Check the answers.
Step Five: Group work
1. Ask students to work in a group of four to discuss and complete 2c.
2. Check the answers by asking one student from each group, and then make some addition if needed.
Step Six: Post-reading
