Train students’ reading and writing skills
Teaching procedure:
Step1: Lead in
1. Students read the title together and review that in this unit we talk about problems and advice.
2. Show a floating bottle .Ask one student to read the problem and have other students give advice.
3. Ask students: Do you have any problems in your daily life? How do you feel? Other students give advice.
Step2.我来读—Skimming
Students look through the letters and answer:
1) Who has a problem? 2) Who gives advice?
Students read the letter quickly and answer the questions :
What’s Sad and Thirteen’s problem?
How does he feel ?
Step3 我来读—Careful reading
一. Students read the first letter carefully and fill in the chart .
Sad and Thirteen's Problem:
He can’t ___________ his family.About his parents Relations become difficult. His parents___________. It’s the only ________ they have.About his elder brotherHis brother is not very_________ him.
and ____________ let him watch his favorite TV show.
About his feeling

二.Students read the second letters carefully and fill in the chart
Sad and Thirteen’s main problem:
He can’t get on with his family.Robert Hunt’s advice:

He feels lonely and nervous.
Students learn new words “communicate, communication, nervous, offer, explain” and new phrase “get on with” When students fill in the blanks.
