3. Cognitive psychology(认知心理):
Most students have a strong thirst for knowledge and the desire to show off. They are outgoing and active. The class should provide students with more chances to speak and a platform to show themselves.
II. Analysis of Contents (教材分析)
The goal of this unit is to “talk about problems and give advice” and to enable students to learn to express “problems” and give their own opinions. Besides, they are to learn the sentence patterns such as “Why don’t you…?” or “We should” to give advice and talk about “after-school classes”. Both the reading passage and the writing are about this topic, so it enables students to have the efficient input of the target language and then reasonable use. The topic is close to students’ study and life and students have a strong curiosity about the topic, so it stimulates the students’ interest and develops students’ imagination and thinking ability.
III. Teaching Aims (教学目标)
1. Language knowledge ( 语言知识 )
(1) On the topic of “after-school classes”, students can learn the reading skills by reading, such as predicting the main idea of the passage, scanning, careful reading to get the information and exacting opinions.
(2) Students can express their ideas on “after-school classes” and talk about the reasons.
(3) Students can apply some sentences about “giving advice”.
(4) Students can write a passage according to the related topic, and they can learn to examine the topic and pay attention to the cohesion of paragraphs.
2. Language skills ( 语言技能 )
Enhance the training of listening, speaking, reading and writing. This period mainly trains students’ reading, speaking and writing skills. According to reading first and then speaking, speaking and then writing, it develops students’ input ability and at the same time have the spoken and writing output, so as to achieve “reading promotes writing”. From this process, students can learn the sentences about giving opinions from the reading passages and apply them in writing.
3. Emotional attitude ( 情感态度 )
(1) To provide a relaxing learning environment for the students and help them to learn in happiness and experience the fun of learning English.
(2) To talk about the topic that students are familiar with. Students can have something to talk about and have their opinions to express, so they can proactively learn English.
(3) The group discussion helps to train students’ cooperative awareness.
(4) The discussion of “having after-school classes” helps to develop students’ imagination, thinking ability and cultivate students’ ability of communication and solving problems through communication.

5. Cultural awareness ( 文化意识 )
Enable students to learn that “after-school class” is a common phenomenon in Chinese and American education. “After-school class” has some advantages and disadvantages to the middle school students.

(1) To get information and abstract viewpoints by reading the passage;
(2) To learn to express the opinions of “agreement” or “disagreement” in English and explain the reasons.
