Lead the students to read the new words.

Step 3. Grammar

Introduce the past progressive tense.

structure : was/were + 动词-ing

表示过去某一时刻或某一时间段正在进行的动作。

时间状语: at eight last night, at this time yesterday, when the rainstorm came...

上下文暗示

Show the target sentences on PPT

Step 4. Lead-in.

Show the picture on PPT,

Ask,Look at the pictures and guess what happened last night?

Where were they and how do you know that? What were they doing when the rainstorm came last night?

Step 5. Activity 1

Move to Activity 1 in the book.Where were the people at the time of the rainstorm? Match the statements with the people in the picture.

Step 6. Listening

Say, This is a TV report. There is a TV reporter and another four people: one girl, one boy, one man and one woman. Listen. What were they doing at the time of the rainstorm?

Play the recording.

Play the recording again. And let students do the exercise on the paper.

Step 6. Oral practice.
