1.Status and Function

This period is the second part of Unit 5.It focus on learning how to describe the past event by using the past progressive tense. Such a topic is very important in this unit. It will help the students a lot to understand the difference between the past progressive tense and the present Progressive Tense. In this lesson, students should learn to protect the environment. students can be interested in knowing how to deal with accidents in their life , it can be helpful to understand the passage by skimming and scanning.

2.The analysis of the students

This lesson is face to the students of Grade 8. The students in Grade 8 are powerful enough to memorize and imitation. But some students don’t have enough confidence to show themselves. I design the task for being a weather reporter. So they will be interested in joining the activities..

1 .Knowledge Aims:

(1)Enable the students to master words: rainstorm, suddenly, alarm , begin,heavily,suddenly,go off , pick up , strange, report. 

(2)Enable the students to use the sentence : What were you doing when rainstorm came?

2 . Ability Aims:

To train students’ listening and reading ability , enable the students to learn how to describe the past events by using the past progressive tense.

3、Emotional Aims:

(1) To let the students help each other when they are facing the difficulties.

(2) Develop cooperative spirit through group work.
