Step 1 Lead-in
Enjoy a song “Trouble is a Friend”
Free talk: Do you have any trouble or problems in your daily life?
Step 2 Presentation
Give some pictures to present the phrases about problems and the sentence structure:
study too much, get enough sleep, too much homework, do things I like, allow sb. to do sth., hang out with friends, too many after-school classes, get into a fight with sb., have a fight with sb.
What’s wrong with you?
What’s the matter with you?
What’s the trouble with you?
Play a game to check the phrases they learned.
Present how to give advice about the problems.
Why don’t you…? Why not…? You should/could…
Discuss advice about other problems and ask some students to give their ideas.
Pair work: talk about the problems and give some advice.
Then finish 1a on the book.
Step 3 Listening
Read the five sentences by themselves first, and then listen and circle the problems you hear.
Then check the answers.
Listen again and fill in the blanks, then ask two students to read the conversation to check the answers.
Ask students to read the conversation in pairs.
Step 4 Group work
Discuss the problems you have at school or at home.
Ask some of them to say their problems.
According to the problems they list, work in groups to make a conversation about how to ask problems and give advice. They can begin like this:

B: It's not easy.
