Step 1 Warming-up
Show some pictures about the students’ actions using when or while to make conversations.
-What was she doing while they were watching TV?

2. Let students watch a video about the performance that was held in our school on May 4. Then ask the students:
(1)What were you doing while they were having the show?
(2)Was it wonderful ?
(3)Was everyone there?
(4)Why was not he there?
Step 2 Presentation
1a Tell the students that you may be late for an event or you can’t go.
Then think of a time when you were late for or couldn’t go to an event. (Such as: a. a meeting b. a party c. a ball game d. a picnic) Then work in pairs to practice the conversation and fill the chart.
- What were the boys doing?
-They were having a meeting.
-Did you have the meeting?
-Yes. But I was late for it.
