Step4 Fast Reading

1. What are the two events in the passage?

Dr. Martin Luther King was killed.

The World Trade Center in New York was taken down by terrorists.

2. When did they happen?

Dr. Martin Luther King was killed on April 4, 1968.

The World Trade Center in New York was taken down by terrorists on September 11, 2001.

设计意图：这两个问题都不会很难，老师预先与学生一起分析题目的重点，让学生了解清楚自己该要解决的内容是什么，抓住了关键就可以得心应手，轻而易举地解决问题。第一个是what,说明要找出事件或某样东西，显然本文要求是事件，学生马上就有了方向，同样，when是时间，所以应该迅速寻找事件发生的时间。

Step5 Guessing

Please read silently after the tape .

Circle any word you don't know and guess its meaning. You can discuss with your partner or ask the teacher.

设计意图：让学生圈出不认识的单词是为学生的仔细阅读扫清障碍，如果说前面两个问题快速阅读就可以解决，那么接下来的问题就需要仔细的阅读了。在此，通过语篇来学习单词，既让学生更深入地理解文章内容又能在阅读的过程中做到心中有数。

Step6 Learn and read the new words after the tape.

设计意图：因为学生还没有真正学过被动语态，所以有必要让学生知道这几个词语的意思

Step8 Tell true or false

设计意图：先让学生仔细阅读文章，弄懂文章的主要意思，进行判断正误，然后让学生改正错误是让学生能够同时注意一些细节问题，达到阅读的真正目的，并且更深入地理解文章内容，同时也为后面的教学做好铺垫。

Step9 Underlining

Underline sentences from the passage with similar meanings to the ones below.

Not everyone will remember who killed him, but they can remember what they were doing when they heard that he got killed.
