Students in Grade Eight have the basics of the listening and speaking. We are trying to practice Ss’ reading skills. This is a reading lesson about the Monkey King. Ss are interested in the story and pay more attention to learning it. So Ss can learn the passage easily by task design.

Step 1 Lead-in.
Greetings.
Show a book of Journey to the West and an electric toy of Sun Wukong to lead in the new lesson.
T: What is the name of the book?
S: Journey to the West.
T: Who is the main character in the traditional book?
S: Sun Wukong / The Monkey King.
设计意图:用一本西游记的名著导入这本书里主要人物孙悟空,这个电动孙悟空会迅速吸引孩子们的眼球,课堂气氛顿时能活跃起来。为学习新课奠定了基础。
Step 2 Learn the new words.
T: Look at the electric toy of Sun Wukong. Who can describe the Monkey King?
S: …
Show a picture of the Monkey King on the white board. Then learn the following words by describing the Monkey King.
the Monkey King, magic stick, hide, tail, turn…into, excite.
设计意图:放一张美猴王的图片在白板上,通过描述美猴王来依次在图片周围呈现新单词,清晰明了。
Step 3 Fast reading.
Read the passage and match the main ideas with paragraphs.
Para1 A. Why has the Monkey King excited so many children ?
Para2 B. Which book is talked about?
Para3 C. What are the differences between the Monkey King and normal monkeys?
