Teaching Procedures:

Step 1: Lead-in

Show a short video of a famous fairy tale.

T: Yes, this is a short video of “Snow White”. It’s a famous fairy tale.

Yeah , you know it means 童话故事。

Then show the explanation of “fairy tale” on the screen and ask Ss to read together.

Step 2: Expansion

Ask Ss to say out the names of the three fairy tales in English.

(Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella)

Then tell Ss that these stories are all written by the brothers Grimm. And show a picture about the writers.

Step 3: Topic Introducing

Show Ss the pictures of “Hansel and Gretel” and ask them to guess the name of the story.

Most of them may not know it. So the T can say, “This class we will learn another story of the brothers Grimm. It’s “ Hansel and Gretel”. And it has another name “糖果屋”.

Then, show the main content of the story in Chinese to let Ss get familiar to the story. ( The background of the story)

Step4: Reading

Task 1: Skimming Reading

Ask Ss to look through the play and try to answer the question below:

What kind of text is it, a letter, a play or a short story?

Then explain the meaning and form of play to the Ss.

戏剧一般根据场景的不同分为不同的幕(scene),这种文本多以人物的对白为主,也会有旁白或舞台指示语。

Task2: Scanning Reading

Ask Ss to read the text quickly and try to answer the two questions below: 1. Who wanted to leave the children to die in the wood?

2.How many characters are there in the play?Who are they?
