Then let all students read them together. After that, ask “What do these numbers remind you of?” (“Maybe you have learnt something about these numbers in your geography class.” If the students can’t remember, the teacher makes an example for them. “8,443.43 reminds me of the highest mountain in the world. )

Show some pictures of four places and teach them how to read them.

Step 4: Task 1a “Match”

Match the facts “The numbers have something to do with these famous places, Can you find it?”

Tell the students some skills, such as finding the key words, like in size, long, high and deep.

Read the sentences together.

Step 5: Task 1b “Listening”

Without listening, ask the students to try filling in the blanks by themselves. Encourage the students to guess bravely. Then check the answers by asking some of them. Ask them about the key words in each sentence.

Check the answers again by listening to the conversations. (Write “geographical facts” on the blackboard as the students are listening.) After that, lead in the new phrases.

Read the listening material together.

Step 6: Practice

After reading the listening material, let the students make conversations to practice.

“A: What is the highest mountain in the world?

B: Qomolangma.

A: How high is it?

B: It’s 8,443.43 meters high.”

Step 7: Task 2a “Listening”

China’s facts

Tell the students to say something about China’s facts. Pay attention to “A fact doesn’t mean there are many people in China or everywhere is dirty in China. It has something to with the numbers.”

Listen to 2a and number the facts in order.

Step 8: Task 2b “Listening”

Listen to 2b and fill in the blanks.

is one of the oldest countries in the world

has the biggest population in the world

is the biggest country in Asia
