Have a free talk with Ss and ask them to read some pictures related to the theme of the topic.

Have Ss know something about pandas.

While-reading

Have Ss skim the passage to match the main ideas

with the paragraphs based on the topic sentences or

key ideas recorded. Give the Ss an example first.

Have Ss discuss the answer if they like.

Let Ss read paragraph 1&2 carefully and fill in the chart. (ppt-5)

Let Ss read para3 carefully and find out what these numbers mean (ppt-6):

5. Let Ss read Para3 again to find the reasons why pandas are endangered. Encourage Ss to come up with more reasons.(ppt-7)

6. Have Ss read the last paragraph to find the ways to save pandas. Have Ss discuss more ways to save pandas. Collect Ss’ ideas. (ppt-8)

Post-reading (ppt-9)

Have Ss work in groups of four to prepare their posters with the help of thinking map, and then ask a reporter to show their poster.

Homework: (ppt-10)

Polish your posters and stick them on the board.

If you like, make another poster for more endangered animals. Call on more people to join us.To have Ss become interested in the topic and prepare Ss for the reading activity.

To have Ss find the topic sentence so that they can get the main idea quickly by this reading strategy. After discussion, Ss will be more confident.

To provide practice in reading for specific details by scanning. Also, encourage Ss to express their own ideas to improve their thinking ability.

To encourage Ss to make a poster in the target language.
