Step I. Revision

T: Do you still remember the story we learned yesterday?

Ss:Yes.

T:What’s the name of it?

Ss:The Emperor’s New Clothes.

T:Very good. Whose fairy tales is it from?

Ss:Andersen’ Fairy Tales.

Step II. Warming up

T:Very good. What other fairy tales do you know?

Ss:Grimm’s Fairy Tales.

T:Yes. Do you know some stories from this fairy tales? You can say their Chinese names if you can’t say them in English.

Then the students say some stories in Chinese. The teacher shows some pictures and asks what’s the name of each story.

Step III. Lead in

Miss Zhang shows a picture of Hansel and Gretel and asks students whether they know this story.

T:Do you know this story?

Ss:No.

T:Do you want to learn this story?

Ss:yes.

T:Well, today we are going to learn a part of this story.

Step IV. Before-reading

T:At first, please listen to the first paragraph of this story, and try to answer the question:

How many members are there in the family? Who are they?
