Step 1. Lead-in
1.Show some pictures to learn the new words of the period .
2.Watch a short play to learn the usage of ‘be supposed to’.
Step 2. Discussion
To hand out five cards to the five groups to discuss the meeting etiquettes in their own countries .
2. To introduce the new words:custom, bow, kiss, shake hands.
Step 3. Work on 1a-1c

Present the pictures in 1a and let the students point out the countries and their customs.
2. Listening 1b.
Watch a short play and check your answers to activities in 1a.
3. Pair work:
A: What are p eople in Korea/… to do when they meet for the first time?
B: They are supposed to bow. How about in the United States?
A: They’re supposed to shake hands.
Step 4. Brain storm
1. hand out the cards and read these words carefully.
