Step 1 Greeting and warming up
T: How is it going these days?
Share a video with the students., then ask three questions:
①Who is the Chinese man in this video?
T: Yes , he is Xi Jinping, the president of China.
② What does he do when he meets people from other countries?
T: Yes, he shakes hands with others.
③So, as a Chinese, what are you supposed to do when you meet someone?
T: Yes, we are supposed to shake hands, so this is what we are going to learn today. Unit 10, the title is You are supposed to shake hands.
Step 2 Leading in
Let students read the title three times, and ask students what does “be supposed to” mean? And encourage students read the title in another way.
Ask students how should we shake hands with others.
①Which hand should we use?
②What facial expression should we have?
Step 3 Teach the names of some countries and their flags.
Show some pictures of flags to the students. And ask students what are these? So, the first one, what country is this one?....
Step 4Learn different customs,
Tell students different countries have different customs, then show some greeting customs on the screen. Then share a video with students to let them know more about these greeting customs.
Step 5 work on 1a
Ask students how to greet in different countries. Then ask students to finish part 1a by themselves. Then ask a line of students to check the answer like: People in…are supposed to …
