Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Warming up

Show the students a pictureof the stonehenge and llead in the stonehenge.

List some questions about the stonehenge.

Step 2: Pre-reading—Prediction

Teacher shows the the picture and the title to the students.

T: Can you guess what the title is talking about?

Step 3: While-reading—Skimming

Read the first sentence of each paragraph carefully and match the main idea with each paragraph.

Step 4: While-reading—Scanning

1. Read Para.1 carefully and finish the mind map.

2. Read para.2 and fill in the chart

3. Read para.3 and answer the questions.

(1) What might the Stonehenge be?

(2) What’s the Stonehenge used for?

4. Read para.4 and answer the questions.

(1) How old is Stonehenge believed to be?

(2) Do people know how it was built?

(3) What does Paul Stoker think of the planners?

Step 5: Review some linking words and phrases and use them properly.

(1) By learning the meaning of not only...but also, students can understand what they read better.

(2) Read the article and underline the linking words and phrases.

(3) Match each linking word or phrase with its purpose.

(4) Summarize the passage by choosing proper linking words from the column.

Step 6: Post-reading—retelling

(1) Review the text step by step.
