本课是新目标九年级英语Unit 1 第一课时的听说课教学。本单元围绕How to study展开听说读写等一系列活动，语言结构仅为by with gerund结构表达学习方式，学生较容易掌握。本单元话题与学生的学习生活紧密联系，特别是对于九年级学生来说，本单元的学习意义重大，通过学习学生将获取更多有效的学习方法，养成良好的学习习惯，为以后的学习乃至终身学习奠定良好的基础。
学情分析
学生经过初中两年的学习，有了一定的语言基础，具备了一些语言学习的方法，但是本班学生为偏远农村中学的学生，根据调查了解，大部分学生语言底子薄，学习自信心不足，学过的知识忘得快，学习习惯有待进一步培养。由于学习条件有限，学生学习英语的方式较单一，因此在教学中应注重引导学生了解更多有效的学习方法表达方式，设计循序渐进的课堂活动，分层教学，激发不同层次学生学习的主动性。
