II. Teaching procedure
Step I Word guessing
The teacher gives one or two sentences to explain a word and Ss try to guess what the word is.
The teacher gives a word each time with a short instruction and Ss guess the related word.
Step II Phrase rewiewing
The teacher show some of the most important phrases in this unit with some blanks. Ask Ss to read them one by one together.
Do some exercises related to those phrases.
Step III Grammar focus
Ask students to think up the structures related to used to. The teacher write them down on the blackboard.
Do some exercises to consolidate used to.
Step IV Text reviewing
Ask one student to read 3a in section A first. Then show them paragraph one with some blanks. Ask them to read paragraph one again and then complete the passage without looking at your textbook.
Show Ss another shorter passage about Candy Wang. Ss should try to find out ten mistakes in it. Then check the answers one by one.
The teacher gives 5 questions about Li Wen in the text He Studies Harder Than He Used to.
The Ss look through the whole passage quickly to get the details. Then, check the answers.
The teacher shows another passage about Martin whose experience is similar to Li Wen’s. Ss try to complete it with the words given.
Step V Oral practice.
Show one photo of a boy and ask who the boy is. Then show the second one, saying, “look! He has changed a lot, hasn’t he?”
Ask Ss to write something about his changes and then select two Ss to do oral practice.
III. Conclusion
The teacher say,”none of us are perfect, so it’s normal to have shortcomings and make mistakes. However, we can get close to perfect by making great effort. I hope in the future everyone of you can become better and better. So much for today! Thank you!”
